Calvin and Hobbes

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about this particular Sunday strip of Calvin and Hobbes. It is one of my favorites and, like many stories from the series, one that has resonated with me through childhood into my early adult life. I think the reason it has been in the back of my mind has something to do with my the transitional, post-college phase I've now entered in my life. In a large sense, it speaks to the many of the fears and confusions my close friends and I have been feeling about our futures. Though the message isn't overly comforting, it is a much appreciated, thoughtful pause to the usual mind-numbing, short-minded grind we have fallen into. My favorite mix of beauty, sadness and humor - and a little bit of that good ol' summer melancholy. I don't mind if life isn't perfect as long as I have someone to appreciate those things with. Thank you Calvin and Hobbes (and Bill Waterson), for giving me a good cry and a little hope.
